This a short story from the point of view of the author, herself, who is a long time resident of Fort Worth, Texas. It gives a time line along with information about cultural pioneers in Texas-style art and music events with special focus on the development of the Van Cliburn Piano Competition. There is a behind the scene look at one of the young pianist who competed in the Cliburn Competition from 1985 through 1989. It gives insight into the trials of the piano contests. In addition to this it provides up to date information about the TCU/Cliburn Piano Institute, the International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs of 2000 at Texas Christian University, the Schedule of Events for the 2001 Eleventh Van Cliburn International Competition in Bass Hall, and a short review of Fort Worth's noted Art Museums and Van Cliburn Competition Winners, Chairmen and Directors (1962-1997.) Visual elements consist of paintings and photographs made when the author/artist hosted young piano contestants. Author, Betty Winton Fay
